From the Crow's Nest - Week 1

  • Some times the NFL does stuff I don't understand, but I'll give credit where it's due:  The Monday Night double header was terrific!

  • Speaking of MNF, Denny Green’s “We are who we thought they were” speech would have been pretty appropriate for Dick Jauron after Buffalo’s meltdown on Monday night.

  • Jake Delhomme signed a huge extension in the off season and returned the favor on Sunday by throwing four interceptions and losing a fumble before getting benched.  He officially sucks.

  • When Adrian Peterson is pissed off, he cannot be stopped.  Just ask the Cleveland Browns.

  • Sunday night was a disaster for the Bears.  1) They lost to division rival Green Bay. 2) Their franchise savior, Jay Cutler, looked horrible, throwing four interceptions.  3) The heart and soul of the team, Brian Urlacher, was lost for the season with a dislocated wrist.  That’s a bad night.

  • Peyton Manning tied Johnny Unitas’ record for most franchise wins with the Colts.  Yep, he’s that good.

  • Santana Moss had just two receptions for six yards.  What’s up with that?

  • Is anyone else already sick and tired of Cris Collinsworth’s rambling idiocy?  I don't think I can tolerate him for another 16 weeks.  I'm waiting for Al Michaels to give him a forearm shiver.  John Madden, where are you?

  • Tim Hightower had 12 receptions for 121 yards.  Who saw that coming?!

  • Don’t let Julius Jones’ 117 yards rushing fool you.  The Rams truly are a terrible, terrible team.

  • Some times it all comes down to the luck of the bounce.  Just ask Lovie Smith.

  • Let there be no doubt:  Darren Sproles is the best running back in San Diego.

  • A.J. Hawk looks like a sex change gone terribly wrong.  He really needs to cut that disgusting hair.

  • Phillip Rivers is a prick.  That’s a fact of life.

  • Patrick Crayton had 135 yards receiving and a touchdown.  ...Terrell who?

  • The Raiders actually looked like a football team Monday night.  A losing football team, but a football team nonetheless.

  • Drew Brees threw for six touchdowns to five different receivers in the season opener.  He was playing the Lions, but still...

  • Ahmad Bradshaw had more rushing yards than Brandon Jacobs.  Hmmmm….

  • Reggie Wayne had 162 yards receiving and a touchdown.  He is going to be a monster this year.

  • The officials’ throwback uniforms on Monday night made me vomit tuna fish.  Did they really wear this stuff back in the day? However, the Bills and Patriots throwback uniforms and helmets were pretty awesome.

  • Thomas Jones had 107 yards rushing and two touchdowns.  Not bad for a guy who was written off by those fantasy “gurus.”  (And here I was thinking Houston’s defense was pretty good...)

  • The Chiefs offense actually scored 24 points against the Ravens.  Unfortunately, the Chiefs defense gave up 38 points.

That's all for now.  Bring on week 2!!

  1. I think the Ref uniforms were before there was color TV...
